Privatisation Of National Statium, Lagos

The Senate Committee on Youths and Sports has advocated the privatisation of the National Stadium in Lagos if the ministry of sports was not willing to reactivate its operations.
The chairman of the committee, Senator Obinna Ogba, stated this on yesterday when the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Chinyeaka Ohaa, appeared before the committee to defend its 2016 budget appropriation.
The senator noted with concern, the absence of the Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalong, at the meeting and charged the ministry not to allow the stadium to waste by putting the facility into productive use.
He insisted that huge money was spent on the stadium and that its contemporaries across the world are functional as wasting is not good for us; it is not good for the country.
“Instead of allowing it to waste like that, it is better that we privatise it. That is what I have said about the National Stadium Lagos.
“Go and check the year it was built, National Stadium in Lagos was built in 1972 or thereabout the same with that of Munich and up till today they are still making use of that stadium in Munich. Why can’t we make use of our own here?”
The senator who also expressed displeasure at the zero budgetary allocation for youth empowerment said that the committee and indeed the Senate would allocate money for youth empowerment.
He insisted that the youth are also very important and as such must be budgeted for in 2016.
